Huskies finish season with 13-5-2 record. Congratulations on a fine season! Northern fell to eventual district champion Portage Central Thursday evening. Parents and fans appreciated the good soccer played throughout the spring season and kudos go out to the players and coaches who made it fun to watch.

Northern defeated Hudsonville 2-1 in first round District action Tuesday evening. Huskie goals came from Sarah Meyer and Meg Smith assisted by Anna Bliss and Sarah Meyer.

PC beats PN for Conference Crown. Central won the second battle of Portage this season 3-0, and on this day at least, it looked like the Mustangs played with more passion, winning most of the 50-50 balls. But attention now quickly turns to the District Tournament where Northern opens against Hudsonville for the right to play Central again!

Huskies defeat Wildcats 6-0 to advance to SMAC Final on Wednesday. Sarah Meyer had three goals and Janice Malone, Brooke Sommers and Sarah Howland had one each. Excellent goal production was assisted by Kristin McCall, Kristan Young, and Sarah Howland three times. In the early game, the JV ran their record to 13-3-1 with a 2-1 win. Stats are now updated through May 25.

Huskies advance to Conference Semifinal. Portage Northern won a tight one Wednesday evening by defeating St. Joseph 1-0 at Husky Field. The lone goal for the Huskies came from Sarah Meyer assisted by Sam Kowalisyn. Amy Nuismer and Mollie Brooks again shared the shutout. In the early match the JV won 4-0.

PN made quick work of Coldwater with two more shutouts Monday evening in first round SMAC tournament action. Both the Varsity and the JV handily won their matches and are now preparing for the stiffer competiton they'll see in the second round. The stat of the day had to be four assists from Sam Kowalisyn, and three from Kristin McCall. Northern goals game from Sydney Campbell, Anna Bliss, Kristin McCall, Janice Malone, Kristan Young, Sarah Meyer, and two each by Sarah Howland, Eden Malone, Chelsea Thompson, Anna Caplis, and Emily Kinner. Besides the seven assists from Kowalisyn and McCall, others came from Janice Malone, Kristan Young, Eden Malone, Anna Caplis, and Emily Kinner. Amy Nuismer and Mollie Brooks notched another shutout for the Huskies.

The Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for new concession/bathroom facilities was a good occasion to thank all those involved in the planning, funding, and construction of the facility, and to enjoy its use on a pleasant spring evening. The Battle Creek Lakeview match Friday was postponed due to swampy field conditions (after over five inches of rain in the past week).

Huskies shut down Blue Devils. For the second time this week, both Portage Northern squads shut out their opponents. The varsity played to a convincing 6-0 win over Gull Lake, with goals coming from Kristin McCall, Sara Howland, Chelsea Thompson, Sarah Meyer, and two from Brooke Somers. Sara Howland was also busy with three assists, and Sam Kowalisyn also had a key assist. Amy Nuismer and Mollie Brooks shared credit for the shutout. The JV won the first match 1-0 to improve their record to 10-3-1.

Portage Northern Blanks St. Joe. Both the varsity and JV shut out St. Joe Monday evening. Scoring for the varsity were Kristan Young and Sara Howland with an assist by Howland on Young's goal. Amy Nuismer and Mollie Brooks racked up another shutout. In the thunderstorm-shortened JV match, Northern prevailed 1-0.

Forest Hills Central looked strong in their 2-1 victory over Portage Northern Wednesday evening. The Huskies lone goal came from Sarah Meyer assisted by Anna Bliss. In the JV match FHC defeated PN 2-0.

Northern back on track against Marshall 4-0. The varsity and JV both earned 4-0 victories Monday evening over Marshall. Huskie goals came from Sarah Howland, Brooke Somers, Sarah Meyer, and Emily Kinner, assisted by Sarah Howland, Kristan Young, Sarah Meyer, and Eden Malone. Amy Nuismer and Mollie Brooks shared credit for the shutout. Stats are updated through 5/3

PN falls to Hackett 1-0. Hackett Catholic played a strong game Saturday and took advantage of a depleted Portage Northern squad. In the early match, Hackett won 2-0.

Northern beats Loy Norrix 3-1 to extend winning streak. Kristan Young scored for the Huskies while Sarah Meyer tallied two, with assists coming from Sara Howland, Meg Smith, and Anna Caplis. In the early match the JV defeated the Knights 6-0.

Huskies defeat BCC 3-0. Portage Northern took another conference battle with a good win over Battle Creek Central. Huskie goals were tallied by Meg Smith, Emily Kinner, and Sarah Meyer assisted by Kristin McCall, Meg Smith, and Brooke Sommers. Varsity stats are updated through Monday's game. The JV dominated the early match 10-0.

PN edges Forest Hills Northern 2-1 in OT. In the battle of the Northerns, Portage came out on top in overtime. Portage goals came from Meg Smith and Brooke Sommers assisted by Anna Bliss and Janice Malone. In the early game Portage Northern prevailed 1-0. Good outing for both squads.

Huskies shut out Maroon Giants. Portage Northern got back on track with a 3-0 win over Kalamazoo Central Wednesday evening. PN goals came from Sara Howland and Sarah Meyer with assists from Sarah Meyer and Chelsea Thompson. Amy Nuismer and Molly Brooks shared the shutout. The JV were also victorious 3-0.

PC scores late to overcome PN. The Huskies played a tough match against their cross-town rivals, holding them off for most of the match until the Mustangs scored late in the second half for a 1-0 victory. In the early match, the JV tied 0-0.

Huskies go undefeated in three matches in Portage/Kalamazoo Invitational. Portage Northern took advantage of some great spring weather to defeat Traverse City Central 2-1 in their first match of the day. Sarah Meyer and Sara Howland had the Huskie goals with an assist from Kristan Young. The second match against Midland Dow wound up a 1-1 draw with the lone goal coming from Sarah Meyer off an assist from Anna Bliss. In the last match, Northern bested Grand Haven 2-1 with goals by Anna Bliss and Kristan Young and an assist from Sarah Meyer. The JV went 2-1 for the day with victories over Traverse City Central (2-1) and Midland Dow (2-0) and a close loss to Grand Haven (2-3).

Players and fans get their money's worth in season-opener. The JV started the season with a 1-0 victory at Mattawan. The varsity also played well, and took a 1-0 lead with Kristan Young's first half goal. However, the home team scored twice to take a 2-1 lead. The Huskies fought back and tied it up near the end of the second half on a goal by Janice Malone. After two 15-minute overtime periods, the score remained 2-2.
